Self
As a senior citizen, we can find ways to become more connected to others. Becoming more social outside your regular circle and family might sound difficult at first. But if you're retired, you may have more free time than you used to. And many opportunities are available that can improve your social well-being.

Caregiver
Watching someone close to you struggle with loneliness can be painful and frustrating. This is particularly true if you live far away or have to stay busy with other responsibilities. But by taking the time to help prevent someone's loneliness or address his or her lonely feelings, serious health issues can be avoided down the road.
Caretaker
Some senior citizens are quite lonely, especially those without close family nearby. They might also have lost their friends. Some also have health problems that interfere with their ability to interact socially. Our elders need caring for more than we think. They need someone to speak out for them at times, someone to advocate their needs, and someone to take the time to listen.
If you see an opportunity to get to know someone a little better, take it. Make the first move.
